Art Blakey & the Jazz Messengers - M & M (1959)
Lest you forget that Mobley could compose, arrange, and play some of the fastest hard bop known to man, M & M (for Mobley & Morgan) is an astonishing tour de force of speed, precision, and swing. This is some of the best live jazz I’ve ever heard on record. For whatever reason, on this night, they were playing collectively at a peak level, even if the house piano Bobby Timmons plays is very out of tune.
