Wynton Kelly Trio & Wes Montgomery - If You Could See Me Now (1965)
The seminal live recording of this Tadd Dameron song. Legend has it the melody was inspired by a Lester Young solo.
It’s easy to dismiss Wes Montgomery for his 60s commercial work with Verve Records under Creed Taylor. Playing in front of one of the greatest trios of all time, however, he is in his element. Incidentally, this is, in this listener’s estimation, one of Wynton Kelly’s finest recorded moments. Swing.
