Wynton Kelly - Kelly Blue (1959)

Released at the time Wynton Kelly, Paul Chambers and Jimmy Cobb were 3/5ths of the Miles Davis quintet, this record is a sublime mix of trio and sextet music, and as on the tune Freddie Freeloader from Kind of Blue, I marvel at the effortless sense of swing that Kelly brings to every tune he plays.

The cut here includes the sextet, a delightful selection of Riverside Records musicians, including Benny Golson on sax, Nat Adderley on the cornet, and the obscure Bobby Jaspar on flute.

The Cannonball Adderley Quintet - This Here (1959)

I put this Bobby Timmons tune up in a trio format a couple posts ago, but this particular version, with Cannonball and his brother Nat, recorded when San Francisco was still a jazz town, will set your knee socks ablaze.
